1 in 5 women have experienced sexual abuse/assault.
1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse as a child and 1 in 20 men will experience sexual assault.
An estimated 3.1% of women (510,000) and 0.8% of men (138,000) aged 16 to 59 experienced sexual assault in the last year, according to the year ending March 2017
20% of women and 4% of men have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16, equivalent to an estimated 3.4 million female victims and 631,000 male victims.
The above figures from the office of national statistics are shocking. Living after experiencing rape or sexual abuse can be devastating. It is important to let people know that they are not alone in this world when they are going through this traumatic time. Each individual is different and it takes them as long as it needs to heal. Survivors should be proud of them selves because they are strong and brave.
In my life I feel like my purpose is to help people and support them. If I had a magic wand I would heal and take away everyone’s pain and suffering. Let me tell you all that it is possible to heal and move forward with your life as I’m living proof. Your dreams and goals in life will shine through again and when they do you will grow into the person you want to be.
If any of you have seen my recent posts then you will know that I am taking part in the 3 Peak Challenge in aid of The Survivors Trust. Starting with Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on the 22nd and 23rd June. The count down is on as it is fast approaching. Guess what I am excited and I cannot wait to tackle this challenge head on.
Giving you all an update on my progress on training I have been going on walks, exercising at the gym and even doing a few home work outs when I can’t get to the gym. This is me at the gym today after doing a hard cardio workout. This is going to be the hardest physical challenge I have ever set myself. I am determined to successfully complete this endeavour and enjoy the whole experience. I am doing this to raise awareness and support every survivor that is walking this earth. My journey through life has led me to were I am today and I wouldn’t change it. I’m going to need your help leading up to this challenge. Let’s shout it from the rooftops and raise awareness for every survivor. We can change lives by raising money for The Survivors Trust.
The Survivors Trust is the only UK and Ireland-wide umbrella agency for specialist organisations supporting all survivors of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse. The core aim of the survivor’s trust is to ensure that society supports all survivors effectively and takes responsibility for ending sexual violence. Help them to achieve this.
Every donation that is made will go towards helping a survivor in need in today’s society. I am so grateful for the donations so far. Please know that you are making a difference. My target is to continue to get as many people involved as I can so please share my blog post with as many people as you can.
